On my second coffee and it’s quite a lovely morning as it was the night.

It’s the warning you don’t heed that, if you can’t help it, gets you, I suppose.

A day once again when I’m out of sorts. I had no real reason to, fear these days, as an evolution from fear in my earlier life, is affecting me.

It began with an interesting segment on radio, discussing the saying, “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in the morning, sailor’s warning.”

Years ago I heard the rationale behind it, which I’d forgotten. The show was going to answer it, so I waited for the explanation.

In our latitude the fronts that pass cause a change in atmospheric stability. If the unstable air mass has passed and is east out to sea then the sky can glow red in the evening. If the sky is red in the west in the morning then the unstable air mass is yet to arrive.

Coupled with that explanation, most interesting, was a forecast of extreme winds to arrive in the morning.

So I woke early, freezing as I unwrapped the bike of layers so it could travel, and sure enough, though I didn’t expect it, the sky was blood red.

I discovered more water in Queanbeyan, all going well, and decided to find another place to shower, and add it to the knowledge list.

Far from problematic, the weather was T-shirt warm, and I drove far too long, lost out near Whitlam, trying to find the address.

Google maps doesn’t help. For no reason it spins, moves, zooms and carries on like an arsehole.

    No winds. No problem.

Still out of sorts, then to Parliament House to discover sitting dates don’t start until July, sadly. So then the bike ride.

Some wind came around 3pm, not much, and some rain. All the while these warnings are getting stronger and more urgent.

I’m fed, warm, and settling into the evening with a few drops coming and going, and no “damaging” wind.

We’ll see how it goes during the night. I’ve moved a couple of metres from my usual spot in case of dropping branches, and don’t feel too troubled, but on edge nevertheless in case it hits.

  • Lake Ride #2

Squeezed in before the rain. Kicked off at the beach and jetty near the roundabout that I take to go out to the hospital, and skirted right beside the water to the first bridge, to the second, and a little way after that I had to turn around as it was sprinkling. Got a bit drizzley, but it was dry back at the van for lunch and to hitch up the bike and throw a cover over it for a couple of days.

So it was very overcast and bleak, chilly, windy, yet fully enjoyable. Past the library, high court, old parliament house, and other famous, significant buildings on that side of the water.

Trees still had some leaves, and not being tall made the ride snug in under them. Bikes, runners, walkers and prams everywhere – just fabulous.
