  • Night Rat

Woke me up, been trying to chase it out of the van since 3AM. Or some other rat-like marsupial.

    UPDATE 6.15AM

Well that was an ordeal. The van is chock-full with stuff everywhere and it’s impossible to catch the creature and let it back into the bush. It would have had to have been a trap and I breaded the thought. All very stressful, as this thing ran and rattled and crashed through the place.

Worrying was that it would dash across the windscreen mat (again) while driving down the highway and cause a crash.

I decided to open the sliding door and front door hoping the lure of nature over a chasing human might prevail. Been no noise for a while, so it might’ve worked. Totally hope so.

Here’s the set up now, speaking the story of rain, heat, night time rat terrorising, morning coffees and overcast sunrise with no sun visible.

    UPDATE 2.50PM

Light rain during the day, after my shower at the sth side river spot. Then a drive to Sth Head for a bit of battery charging and a look, where I threw out the old shoes. $12 and stinky dirty and didn’t last long. Sad, though. Seriously uncomfortable.

Back now at Waldrens. Already people here. Busy.

A motorhomes just pulled in close to the caravan below, which means I’ll get a prick right against the rear.

    It’s a lottery.

Funny how people arrive and walk the place: some can’t help themselves and pretend they’re not trying to look in.

    7.25PM

    RATTED OUT

So I get to the rest area and watch a fuckwit park in a place making it difficult for every car that goes there. He’s got grey hair and the face and bearing of a total nuisance pillock.

The place fills up, one left, and I tell them I’ll move my car to fit their large caravan, and they’re nice people and are thankful.

Then pillock comes in like a nuisance must.

After dinner he invites himself to their company, talking loudly so I am disturbed. He rushes to be involved like a fuckwit with a caravan that can’t fit and I get out and rake the chance with him alone.

Mate if you’re going to chat away can you please do it in front of your van by any chance?

I ask nicely, and the prick stares ahead. No one questions this fuck.

That’d be thoughtful, I say firmly.

He goes back and carries on. I drive away.

    UPDATE 8.10PM

I moved to the truck rest area where I’ve slept before, and set up again for the night.

Soon, three cars arrive, older people and girls. The girls are loud, selfish and obnoxious. They’re just feet away.

They carry on, impossible to relax.

Are you guys staying? I ask the older bloke.

    Yes.

I start tge car, pack up again and drive away.

I’m now at the boat ramp north side, near the airport.

I knew it would be like this. People just don’t care.

I told the first couple thatvI was there because I was leaving early and I didn’t want to disturb all those people there where they’re going, in my place.

Well, they’re coming. Lovely humble Waldrens is packed all down the side each night and some bastards park too close to my van. I move away often and don’t say anything, so they probably think they’re smart in getting the space.

I left early and came downriver for a good toilet. Vans, motorhomes and rooftops starting to do the river sides.

So very keen to get out of here. Only three more nights!

    UPDATE 4PM

    Precious rain.

Not much. Eight minutes of thunderstorm light. But it’s water on the landscape and cooler in the air. Phew

I leave a bucket out at air temperature to cloth-wash off, later in the evening. Sticky sweaty all day, any day, and this is a five day heatwave.

Heat wave morning. That’s directly towards the sunrise, and it’s not normal:

    UPDATE

Mongrel hot. Sugar levels vary high all day.

Bluetti arrived, but couldn’t return the dud because the label they sent expired in 48 hours. I wrote to them to send a new label.

In the process I caught up with Dave. Fantastic help with the address I needed.

I gave him two paintings. Tilba hills and Moruya river from the quarry. Acrylics on the road.

Now reading C’s book and learning more about her. Wonderful young woman unsupported. Very touching.

Getting out of here can’t come quickly enough but have to wait until xar service Tuesday.

Hot sticky sleephard night again, unless it rains.

  • Heat Wave

    A complete bastard.

Second day in, three more to go.

    These things are killers.

Had the lowest sugar readings with the sensor, so far. Mid 3s. Alarm went off. In the heat it was hard to sensibly dodge a pass-out, and I didn’t at all feel like eating. A bit scary.
