Thunderstorm. Lightning. Rain spatters. Dark.
9.30 AM
At two o’clock yesterday afternoon a girl turns up with a little battery bank smaller than a mobile phone, holding out also a charging cable.
The panels were no longer charging so I knew it would deplete my backup. About an hour, she reckoned.
Six and a half hours later the little thing was still sucking it in, with 3 out of 4 lights full. She’d been up meanwhile. We agreed on another hour and a half. Still not full.
Then the night was troubled by repetitive music booming through the bush, and the chatting of the would-be permanent guy with the barking dog. Hard to tell whence the music, maybe them, or up at Brou lake. Still going at 2AM.
So both my miveable batteries are low, and it’s very overcast, and that bloke is getting more erratic and unsettled. His mates went and returned, so presumably another party and fire tonight.
I’ll paint what I can today, but this place is a powder keg. I am not comfortable here. If I have to go, I will.

Weather today did everything, it seemed. But it cleared sunny sufficiently for me to work on three paintings and charge the batteries, and charge my new acquaintance’s as well.
I boiled up a couple of buckets for her to shower, showed her how to do it and she was newborn after that, suffering as she has for 12 months. Really pleased to give her a lift.
Earlier had a chat with a traveller and terrific bloke, just passing through and staying in motels.
Been quite the human eventful day, socialising more today than I have in two years.
